Hubbs Says Goodbye to BalsamWest FiberNET

10/11/10

Sylva, NC - David Hubbs announced that he would be leaving BalsamWest FiberNET to pursue some of his own personal interests. Since becoming CEO, David has provided leadership and guidance over the continued growth and development of the fiber optic-based, wholesale and enterprise telecommunications carrier. When David joined the BalsamWest team he was no stranger to the company. He previously served as the Founding Chair of the BalsamWest Board of Directors and as the Director of Internet Services for Drake Enterprises.

Jennifer Dills, BalsamWest Vice-Chairman of the Board said, “When David came on board BalsamWest, he took a group of individuals and built them into a team. This team, including David, was able to strategically guide the company into new markets and bring more options to customers of BalsamWest.”

Among his many accomplishments, David most recently helped facilitate BalsamWest’s offering a suite of services for businesses which include a robust, feature rich phone product combined with high speed Internet service, all at very competitive prices. From the very beginning, Hubbs has said, “Our philosophy is simple. We provide state of the art communications to Western North Carolina which allows our region to compete with any area of the United States. We want to help grow and attract 21st century business to our communities.” Hubbs instilled this in all his employees and they continue to operate under this idea.

BalsamWest Chairman of the Board, Barbara Vicknair said, “The board feels that David provided BalsamWest a stable leadership role the last three years. His gentle personality will be missed and we wish him well in pursuing his personal endeavors.”

Dr. Cecil Groves will assume the permanent position of CEO. Many know Dr. Groves as the former President of Southwestern Community College where he led the college to national recognition in several areas. He has an extensive and distinguished record in technology deployment, economic development and was instrumental in establishing BalsamWest.

Dr. Groves commented. “We are all most grateful for David’s thoughtful leadership and dedication during the formative years of BalsamWest. He was the right person for the time, the task and the challenges. Thank you David for a job well done.”

BalsamWest FiberNet is a fiber optic-based, wholesale and enterprise telecommunications carrier and is jointly owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and Drake enterprises, Ltd. The mission of BalsamWest is to bring 21st century communications to Western North Carolina that previously have not been available in rural areas.
